New England Home Revival-13 Before and Afters

View Toward Den After We started with a New England home that had great 'bones.'   We raised the ceilings on the second floor, expanded the footprint, and renovated everything else.  In the end, our clients got just what they were looking for: A wonderful New England home.  Our client served as her own interior designer and made us all proud.  I can't imagine her home without her amazing taste and style. 11 Amazing Kitchen Floor Options

Stained White Oak with Runners The selection of a kitchen floor is another example of how our wealth of choices makes those selections all the more difficult.  The criteria for a kitchen floor include the following: 1.  It must be attractive-a very broad and subjective requirement, which is often in the eye of the beholder. 2.  It must be durable-there are many forms of durability.  For wood, durability may mean looking good with dings and scratches.  With stone or tile, [...]

My Wonderful Garden Time

Beanstalk At this time in the growing season, my vegetable garden is struggling as it fights off pests, weeds, and a distracted gardener.  By now, we have eaten numerous meals, including delicious, crispy lettuce, snow peas, kale, zucchini, and pole beans, to name a few.  The tomatoes are not ripe yet, and the fall vegetables have a long way to go.  This is a good time for me to enjoy my photography obsession before summer vacations give rise [...]

New Home Bird House Vent New Home Exterior In our office, as one project is about to finish, and another begins.  In many ways, the completion of a project is bittersweet because of the relationships we have made with the homeowners as well as the homebuilders.  These relationships often long outlast the projects and that is one of the great pleasures of our profession. Animal Update 5-22

Ewe and Lambs We have had a very busy spring on the farm.  Two lambs arrived while my wife was in California, helping our youngest daughter pack up at the end of the semester.  Lucky for me all went well with the birth of the lambs, and I just got a pleasant surprise when I walked up to the barn.  The mom gave birth to a ram and a ewe lamb, and they both are healthy.  This time [...]

18 Marvelous Mudrooms for Spring

Mudroom Over the years, we have designed many mudrooms.  Sometimes, they are designed as a room dedicated to getting mud off of kids, pets, and everyone coming into the home's side door.  Other times, they serve light duty as entries with coat hooks and a place to sit and take off or put on shoes. In the design of these mudrooms, we try to make them bright, comfortable, and, above all, functional.  In one home, the entry/mudroom is [...]
