Normally, a few extra lambs are no big deal. On our micro-farm, however, 8 new lambs are a big deal, considering our usual flock is about a dozen sheep, all told. This morning, we walked up to the barn to feed the animals as usual, and low and behold, we had two new lambs that were born overnight when we were expecting only one. They added to our previously born lambs and the two-bottle lambs we acquired when a friend was overwhelmed with his big birth year. Lambs whose mother rejects them must be fed formula, sometimes four times a day. We were lucky that our nephews, who live next door, jumped at the opportunity to help with some of the feedings. They will be showing the lambs at the Dutchess County Fair this year.
Luckily, all of our dogs get along with the sheep, including Mo, who just turned one year old, is exceeding 90 pounds, and thinks she is a lap dog.
Of course I love seeing our pretty addition that your company made possible, but the lambs are a total delight!
I just love your work and always look forward to your posts. I hope one day to use you on a house project.
