Multipart Home Addition

Home With New and Old Additions

Don’t get me wrong, I love symmetry.  All of our projects have parts that are symmetrical, and others are 100% symmetrical, but there are many beautiful homes that are stunning because of their overall composition rather than perfect symmetry.  I have always admired old homes that grew over generations of owners adapting to the needs and the means of the families that lived there.  Often when we design a new home, we try to capture the spirit of a home that grew over time.

Even a 1000 square foot home can capture that feeling of dynamic growth.  The lesson learned over 30 plus years of our firm designing new homes and additions is that great homes don’t need symmetry, they need thoughtful composition, good proportions, and beauty.
