Window Seat In Bookcase

Window Seat in Bookcase

I love window seats.  They are the perfect place to store things, sit and tie your shoe, or relax and read a book.  Sometimes we build them in a kitchen and call them breakfast bays, but if it is a seat built under a window-it’s a window seat.  They can be plain or fancy, adorned with cushions or simple slabs, in the end, they evoke a warm inviting feeling in the room.

We sometimes use window seats to hide radiators or heating and cooling ducts.  A piano hinge at the window side allows for a lift up lid.  Bookcases under the seat can be wonderfully self serving.

The addition of a reading light makes a window seat even more practical and inviting.  A cozy window seat can be a real asset to any room.
