One of the most cost effective places to gain a bonus space is above a garage. By picking up the roof a few feet when building a garage, you can gain usable space such as guest quarters, great storage, a painting studio, home theater, or an all purpose loft. When we are designing a garage we always suggest adding those extra few feet of head room even if there are no immediate plans to finish it off. Sometimes our clients ask us to retrofit an existing garage with dormers or knee walls to pick up the roof, then finish the space for all kinds of uses.

I especially like the lighting in the 5th photo (from the outside at night). The lights in the
windows are very welcoming but its the porch light I really admire because you recessed the
fixtures below the edge of the porch, so from outside we see warm light but NO LIGHTBULBS.
This seems important and usually ignored in outside lighting. THanks,
Jimmy,
I think that the projects are great. Keep up the good work and let us know when you all plan to come to NYC.
